To Install ProteMac Meter

  1. Download ProteMac Meter for Mac from http://www.protemac.com/downloads/protemacmeter.dmg .
  2. Run the protemacmeter.dmg file from the desktop or download location.
  3. In the ProteMac Meter window double click the Install.pkg file.

  4. Follow the prompts to complete the install.
Once ProteMac Meter is installed you may delete the Protemacmeter.dmg file from your desktop or download location.

Using ProteMac Meter



Specify the Programs to Monitor



  1. Start ProteMac Meter.
  2. From the ProteMac Meter pull-down menu select Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window you can select one of the following:
    1. All Applications - for monitoring all applications’ network and internet traffic.
    2. Apps In List – choose specific applications to monitor by clicking the “+” button in the lower right corner of the window and choosing from the list of applications.
    3. Apps, Except In List – defaults to All Applications except the applications selected; again, click the “+” icon and select from the list of applications those that you do NOT want to monitor.


    4. Preferences

  4. Don’t Capture Local Connection – uncheck this box to receive notifications of new local connections.
  5. Autostart At Login – launches Meter’s monitoring utilities when you login.
  6. Click “OK” to save your preferences.

Specify the Time Period to Report



  1. From the main Applications window select an application from the list then select the "Full Traffic" button.

  2. In the new Total Graphic window, select a period of time using the calendar and clock icons. Click Ok.
  3. Meter, compiles the new statistics and displays the information in a graph format.

  4. When you have finished specifying the period for the application, close the window by clicking the red X button in the top left corner of the window.


Reading the Applications List Window



  1. The main Applications List window, lists all the applications that Meter is monitoring.
  2. Here you can preview at a glance the name, path, amount of received data, amount of sent data, and last activity time for the selected application.
  3. For easier to read detailed information about the selected application click the “Info >” button in the lower right.
  4. The side panel will open detailing the selected application’s statistics.
  5. Click the “Properties” button on the left, under the applications list to get information on the selected application.
  6. To get Full Traffic, TCP Traffic, or UDP Traffic information for the selected applications click the corresponding buttons under the application list.
    1. In the Application Graphic window select a time period and click “Ok".
    2. The Application Graphic window will display the network and Internet traffic in graph format.


To View Detailed Traffic Information



  1. In the Applications List window, select an application, click "Full Traffic", "UDP", or "TCP", which ever type of connections you wish to view
  2. Click the "Change Period" button, and select the time period to display. Click "Ok".
  3. In the "Total Graphics" window click the down arrow located in the lower left corner of the window.
  4. This opens the connection list.

  5. Select from the drop down to "Show Traffic In" Mbytes, Kbytes or Bytes.
  6. To close the window, click the red X in the top left corner. Return to the Applications List window.


To View Real Time Traffic



  1. From the "Applications List" window, select the applications to monitor.
  2. Click the "Real Time" button below the list of applications.
  3. The "Real Time" monitor window opens and details in graph format the network and Internet activity of the selected applications.

Manage Meter Database



  1. From the ProteMac Meter pull down select Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences window you can select a period of time for storing Meter’s database. Select from the drop down list: 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 5 months, 10 months, or 12 months.
  3. To clear all database data select the “Clean All Data Now” button.
